Job Description:
We are seeking a highly experienced and motivated Chief Healthcare Underwriter to lead our underwriting team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in healthcare underwriting, exceptional analytical skills, and a deep understanding of the healthcare insurance industry. This role involves managing underwriting activities, ensuring compliance with industry regulations, and developing strategies to optimize risk selection and profitability.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and manage the healthcare underwriting team, providing guidance and support to ensure high performance.
Develop and implement underwriting policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure consistent and accurate risk assessment.
Analyze and evaluate healthcare insurance applications, ensuring compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements.
Collaborate with actuarial, claims, and sales teams to develop and refine underwriting strategies.
Monitor industry trends and regulatory changes, adjusting underwriting practices as necessary.
Review and approve large and complex healthcare insurance applications.
Mentor and train junior underwriters, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development.
Conduct regular audits of underwriting files to ensure quality and compliance.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including brokers, agents, and reinsurers.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Healthcare Administration, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
Minimum of 10 years of experience in healthcare underwriting, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
Strong knowledge of healthcare insurance products, regulations, and industry trends.
Proven track record of developing and implementing successful underwriting strategies.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Strong leadership and team management abilities.
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
Experience with David Young/ESL and Claros Advisor are a plus.
Professional certifications such as CPCU (Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter) or ARe (Associate in Reinsurance) are a plus.
